What a long week!!!

We make it almost 8 months with no UK basketball, but then we freak out every December when we have to wait an entire week between basketball games.  Calm down everyone today you will get your UK fix as the not so mighty Hoosiers stroll into town.   I’ve been reading a lot of comparisons to this IU team and the “UNFORGETTABLE’s”; my one thought on this subject: lets wait and see what they produce this year and next before we start the praise.  Now as I said yesterday I think this team will play with a lot of heart (as Nate always says in rivalry games everything goes out the window anything can happen).  I would not be surprised to see them give us a fight early, maybe even grab the lead for a little while (we are known to have slow starts).  I do believe that by the 10 min mark this game will be ours though, I also see the second half being just fun for our CATS.  That could mean the score could be closer than what some may think;  since teams forget to play defense when they think they the game locked in as a win.   I hope to see a lot out of our bench today versus a big name big conference opponent.  Patterson scores 20+ with a 10+ rebounds I think Meeks scores between 20-25.  I hope to see big games out of Josh Harrellson, Liggins, and Stevenson.  I would love to see Galloway and Miller put on a show for us today and help boost there confidence.

Shortys quick pick- UK 87 Iu 65

And since this is our first rivalry game of the year I will be posting UK/IU highlights all day.   ENJOY, C-A-T-S!!!!!

’cause it’s Friday; you ain’t got no job

actually I do have a job, but not after today because i was laid off.  Anyways, just wanted to give you a few lunchtime thoughts.

First off we have IU tomorrow; this game has potential to be closer than it should. I think we will pull it out by a double digit win but do not be surprised if they attack us hard early.

Second, quick stats from last nights game Michael James 10 points, Lamar Owen 15, Thad Key 8.  Wayne Turner had 2 for the Miners.

Stay tuned for more later today.

I leave you with another quote from “FRIDAY”

No sugar? D…. Y’all ain’t never got two things that match. Either y’all got Kool-aid, no sugar. Peanut butter, no jelly. Ham, no burger. Daaang

Ky Bisons drop opener.

Well I have to say one thing, I was actually impressed with the quality of the game.  Now don’t get me wrong it wasn’t a NBA game; probably not even a good UK game but for small town amateur basketball I was pleased.  I did not get to see the Wayne Turner/Brandon Stockton match up I was hoping for due to an injury to Mr. Stockton.  I did get to say what up to Michael James and watch him hassle the entire Miners team.  Mike James was all over the court tonight, although he did have a bit of an off night shooting, his defense, hustle, and ability to distribute the ball made him very valuable.

The Bisons ending up losing its first ever home game by 8. I believe the score was 102 94 but I don’t remember…sorry.  They did show a lot of heart and grit battling back from 10 point deficit three times in the second half.   One thing I love about it being small is the fact you can hear the players yelling on the court.  I will give you my top three moments in a minute but the honorable mentions are…..

The ref yelling at the Miners coach to “set down, I’m the one calling this game.”

Thad Key yelling a long list of curse words that never worked its self into actually being a complete sentence.

Now the top three moments…

3) Lamar Owen yelling after being taken out of the game in the fourth qaurter ” What the …. Can’t nobody out there stop me!  I told you I was going to take over in the fourth quater. Taken me out the game. What the …..” ( to his defense he had just pulled in 3 rebounds 2 steals and 7 points in a matter of about 1 minute)

2) Lamar Owen yelling after being taken out of the game later in the fourth quarter. (while looking at the owner of the Bisons on the side line, team down by 6 with 1:30 left)  “It’s your coaching staff! Ask them, you hired them. This is ridiculous!”

1) Otis Key (former Harlem Globetrotter) the head coach of the Bisons yelling during second quarter timeout.  Now to be honest I don’t remember what was said at first, but there was no music playing and the entire center could him ripping his guys. The music came quickly after that and was loudest during timeouts from that moment on.  My favorite part though was his advice on rebounding…. “Someone freaking rebound, Push someone, push them down every time.  #21(other team)  hasn’t even broke a sweat yet. Somebody hit someone!”

Over all take on the game, it was winnable.  The team has a few studs but to many that think they are.  Watching Lamar Owen take over for that brief period reminded me of high school.  Thad Key, Boris Siakam are beast.  Aubrey White, Jamie Jackson, Michael James are major factors for them to win.  Lamar Owen, Kenny Jones, and Jamar Avant are physical players that provided a major spark of the bench.  The one thing I can say about this game was when they played as a team they dominated.  The problem was 80% of the time when they did work as a team the same 2-3 players ended up scoring, whats the problem with that?  These players  then consentantly tried to become a one man show (Owen).  If they can control there ego’s for an entire game I think they will have an awesome year.   And Head coach Otis coached in jeans and a polo….NICE.

Next game,  Sunday versus Knoxville @ Owensboro SportsCenter. We beat this team 126-87 last Sunday, so should be fun to watch.

Editors note: check out the weird but kinda cool ABA basketball rules.  Makes the game a little more interesting I guess.

’92,’92,’92….. who gives a crap!?!?

jj_is_redickulously_gay

So I’m sick and tired of a lot of things and I think its about to start spewing out onto this blog.  So first and foremost I just want to share a great post from Matt who? Matt Jones over at KSR.  Below I copied just a little bit but check out his top ten UK rivals.   Now back to me.  I’m tired of hearing crap from Duke fans about our fallen basketball program.  First of all who gives a crap.  You know what, when UCLA was in a slump in the mid 90’s- early 2000’s; did we talk crap? Nope, because we don’t care about UCLA. They do not intimidate us, they do not cause me to lose sleep if they win or lose, they do not cross my mind unless ESPN brings them up.  But for you little dukies out there you constantly bring ’92 and talk smack about our pragram. Why?  If your such an elite program and we are nothing anymore why do we bother you so much that you need  to talk trash.  And you see the ’92 shtick is getting old, thbut well I guess at’s all you have.  You could bring up national titles….but we have more.  You could bring up all-time wins……but we have more.  You could bring up NCAA tourney appearance…..but we have more.  How about NCAA tourney wins…..nope still have more.  I know, what about conference titles…..haha try again.  What about the all time record of Uk vs Duke…… 12-8 CATS.  I got it…….1992! …… What about 1998 (but we like to forget about the best choke job in NCAA tourney history, don’t we)?

I think I have said enough, but I would like to leave you with the thoughts of Matt Jones.

(3) Duke: Now if we are just talking sheer, unadulterated hate, Duke is #1. I cant stand Duke with a passion that is unmatched in any other arena. But a lot of that is personal, having spent three years dealing with Duke fans, nearly every one of which I wanted to personally lock in a room with an angry Jeff Snedegar. But rationally, I recognize that we only play Duke like once every five years and there is no reason to hold them in the regard of the top two. But seriously, can there be anything more objectionable than the Blue Devils? Coach K is as obnoxious as he can be (and once yelled at my girlfriend after she wrecked her car into him….the best thing she ever did btw) and the Cameron Crazies have such a large dork quotient that Vandy fans kick sand on their shoes as they walk by. But nothing is worse than the players. From Hurley to Collins to Wojo to Redick to Paulus to Scheyer to every floor slapping, no heart-having, mama cuts your steak playing dude to wear those evil colors, no one is cool when they come from Duke. I truly cannot tolerate them. I think Patrick Patterson said it best, when he commented after making his decision for UK that when it came to the players at Duke, “I just wasn’t feeling those guys.” D*** right Pat!

PS- Just in case you dukies forgot about 1998 and your 18 point cough up here is a reminder….

Two of my favorites

So one of my all time favorite CATS will be suiting up tomorrow for…… the Eastern Ky Miners.  That’s right Wayne Turner will be in Owensboro playing the Bisons in there first ever home game.   Turner has always been one of my favorite CATS and next to Travis Ford might be my top PG from UK.

Along with Mr. Turner; Alonzo Hird, one of my favorite EKU Colonels (my Alma mater), will also be playing for the Miners.  So tomorrow night in my home town I get to witness Wayne Turner vs. Brandon Stockton, Lamar Owens and Michael James (both of whom i went to school with in Owensboro) vs. Alonzo Hird and Jason McLeish ( both of whom I went to school with in college).  WOW!! Next to being me this is the greatest thing EVER!!!!!

Well off to bed.  Ill be back tomorrow night with a recap of my Ky Bisons/E Ky Miners basketball game.

check you later- SHORTY

ABA basketball!!! BACK IN KENTUCKY!!!

I’m not trying to copy our favorite website, they posted something about it yesterday, but I have to comment about KY’s newest basketball team.  The Kentucky Bisons are stampeding through the bluegrass (cheesy i know SHUT UP!).  They destroyed Knoxville on Sat and have a home game tomorrow against the coalminers.  I will be attending this game (Nate and I live in Owensboro)  and will have a wrap up of the game when I get home.

bisonslogorylblu

I encourage everyone to pull for the Bisons.  I went to school with Lamar Owens and Mike James (whom I beat in a two on two game when we were like 12); I think this will actually be a very entertaining extra to watch along with UK this season.

So good luck Bisons

Shorty’s quick pick- Bisons 117 Coalminers 90 ( I know zero about either team; only Bisons dropped like 123 on SAT)

SCRUBS has the answer.

So imagine the girl in the wheelchair as being the Unversity of Kentucky Basketball program.  JD and Turk know how to fix our turnover problems……

Round one!

sec

Well I decided to go ahead and post the SEC/Pac 10 match up; so here you go.

ranks       SEC vs Pac 10      winner     points

10)   ARK vs  Wash                 Ark            1 sec

9)     UK vs  Wash St               UK              1 sec

8)    UT  vs   UCLA                 UCLA          2 pac 10

7)   LSU vs  Stanf                 LSU                 2 sec

6)  USCar vs   Ariz St        USC                    2 sec

5)  Vandy vs  Ariz          split (I took Arz)    1 sec, 1 pac 10

4)  Miss  vs  Cal               Miss (hot right now)    3 sec

3) UGA vs  OrgSU        UGA                             3 sec

2)  Uf  vs  Or                  UF(unstoppable)     3 sec

1)  Ala vs  USC            ALA                               3 sec

The SEC squeaks by with a 19-3 victory.  Again like the Big 12 the offense is just to fast and the defense is just way to big and physical for the PAC 10.

Now tomorrow I will have the last round one game and the final four.
